Story filed by Stacey Pinto Things are far gone from sizzling and bubbling in the Interior Design Department of Manipal University, Dubai. Now, it's a total eruption of aptitude and genius, with competitions already pushing the 1st, 2nd and 3rd year students to show the world exactly what they're made of. The ID Department was formally invited by the Al Habtoor Leighton Group to participate in the Al Habtoor ISG Young Designers Award 2008 Design Competition on the 14th of September, 2008. This was done by Mr. Vinod Thomas, Secretary of Association for Professional Interior Designers (APID), a partner to the said event. Seven groups submitted their concepts to the faculty committee on the 8th of October 2008 and four groups were selected to participate in the final competition which took place at the Al Habtoor Head Office on the 16th of October 2008. On asking Mr. Ashok Iyer, the HOD of the ID Department, the results of the day, he said, "All the four teams from our Department worked really hard towards the final competition and are 'winners' as their whole hearted participation was the true essence of the competition,". Before we go on to announce the winner's of the evening, we at the Manipal blog would like to say a big, hearty congratulations to all the participants of the competition and a great, big round of applause to the final four groups, who made it that far. The final four groups are as follows: Group # 1: YOUSUF KHAIRULLA - 3rd Year B.A. INTERIOR DESIGN HIBBA A. BA ID) Miss Sabrina Kensus (2nd Yr. BA ID) Miss Sherin Elsa Samuel (2nd Yr. MA ID) Certificate for the Most Detailed Work: Miss Sneha Muttha (3rd Yr. BA ID), Miss Deepa Venkatraman (2nd Yr. BA ID) Miss Sharyun M Nazar (2nd Yr. BA ID) When asked about the event, Mr. Ashok said, "I would also like to take this opportunity to thank the ID Dept. team, especially Miss Indira, Miss Sarah and Miss Bhakti for their involvement with the participating groups. A vote of thanks to the students from the BA ID and MA ID Program who helped in the final presentation is also worth a mention. Also, Al Habtoor Group will be inviting the Interior Design Department to showcase their work at the Prestigious INDEX 2008 from the 3rd to the 7th of December 2008 at Dubai International Exhibition Centre, so we're definitely looking forward to that," So there we have it, the ID Department has already begun to follow in the footsteps of their previous batch mates and have set the bar, way up high. Here's to a great start! We're totally looking forward to what they're going to be up to and in, next! Stacey Victoria Pinto.
