The team from Dubai Doplhinarium Students enjoying yummy ice creams from London Dairy
Students distributing gifts by Super Max The 9th of March 2009 saw Manipal University, Dubai swathed in purple t-shirts, kefiyeh’s and shawls. International Women’s Day was organized and celebrated by the Advertising and Public Relations students from the Department of Media and Communication.
After the initial hurdles in the form of getting sponsors for the event, everything went smoothly as planned. What got the ball rolling was the first sponsor for the event, Super Max, which was brought by Princilla Gonsalves, a member of the organizing team. Within a matter of four days, surprisingly, everything fell into place.
Soon enough, all the potential sponsors began to take a keen interest in the event, and readily contributed their bit. “Till the day of the event we couldn’t stop getting calls from sponsors,” said the event co-ordinator Ms. H.S. Shubha.
Finally, after a total of 19 sponsors, the Event Team simply could not accommodate any more. On being asked how difficult it was to get sponsors, Vishal Joshi, a member of the organizing team, said “It was not difficult at all actually. It all depends upon who you know, and the relationship you maintain with them. Personal contacts help when organizing an event, or any event for that matter. That’s what helped when we were looking for sponsors. I’d like to thank all the sponsors for being a part of this event.”
Rangoli Trading LLC, Dhamani Jewellers and VLCC were the main sponsor’s of the event. Co-sponsors of the event were Joy Alukkas Jewellers, Lays, London Dairy, Dubai Dolphinarium, Super Max, Yardley, Emirates Driving Institute, ExHealth Care Solutions, Total Lubricants, Alokozay Tea, Ginnys, Krispy Delight Cafeteria, Evergrow International LLC, House of Cakes, and Distant Dreams Holiday Makers Pvt Ltd.
Emirates Driving Institute distributed brochures on driving safely, along with key chains that also served as Tire Gauges, the latter of which was quite popular among the men as well as the women.
The London Dairy ice cream was the rage among the students, each carrying off at least two ice creams at a time. But Lays was not too far behind, with students swarming the chips stall throughout the day for more packets of the crispy potato wafers. Warm refreshments were provided by Alokozay Tea.
VLCC distributed booklets on their campaign ‘Mothers & VLCC Partners in Health’. Besides this, VLCC has promised free health checkups worth Dhs 700 for all students and faculty of Manipal University. This offer is valid till the 31st of March 2009. Also, three gift vouchers worth Dhs 3000 each were awarded to the winners of the Quiz Competition.
The Dubai Dolphinarium offered free entry tickets for children on the purchase of an adult ticket worth Dhs 75.
The Yardley stall was another popular favourite, where wonderful little tubes of Yardley Hand Creams and Shower Gels were distributed in lavender Yardley goodie bags. Also, women’s razors were distributed by Super Max.
Kudos to the Event Team! Their convincing efforts in enticing such wonderful sponsors into coming together and celebrating the spirit of Women, helped make this day a memorable day for all women.
