The annual BBA Department event, Horizons ’09, took place on the 11th, 12th and 13th of May 2009. Many industry professionals could be counted amongst the list of guests who visited Manipal University as a part of the BBA event.
The list of guests include Mr. Shawqi Hamdan,Group Editor, Business Excellence at Dubai Holding, Mr. Ahmed Sharifi, who has a wealth of experience in Marketing and Communication, and also in the Automotive Industry. The author of three highly successful books and ex-Chief Executive at the Yes Forever Young Inc. located in Carroliton, Texas, USA, Dr. Mansoor and Mr. Daniel Ough, Managing Director of Sandpiper Consultants were also present.

On the first day, competitions included Management Basket judged by Mr. R.N.Shukul a senior faculty of the Department of Media and Communication. The winner for this competition was Pulkit and Mihir Hasan was runner up, and both were 2nd year BBA students. The only other competition for the day, Business Plan, was judged by Mr. Naveen Kapoor, a BBA faculty member. The winners included Hemal, Jessica and Klarissa, and the runner up team included John, Sadiq, Hilson and Ryan, all seven students from 1st year BBA.
The second day of Horizons ’09 had a few judges from the industry as well.
RJ Charu from Radio 4 FM, one of the guests, also judged the Debate Competition. The topic for the debate was “Are companies forgetting their ethics during recession?”. The Best Speaker trophy from the 4-member strong team For the motion was awarded to Hemal a 1st year BBA student, and from the 5-member strong team Against the motion, Anandha Kumar, a final year Media student, was awarded the trophy.
Judged by, Mr. Asif a professional in the advertising field from Media Edge, Nafisa and Hiba, both BBA final year students won the Print Ad competition, while Anandha Kumar came runner up.
On the third and final day of the event, a Business Quiz was conducted, where the topic was Current Affairs. The Quiz was won by Sneha and Madeeha, while the runners up were Verton and Akhil, both teams from 2nd year BBA.
The Marketing Mix competition was judged by Mr. Ashok Iyer, Head of the Department of Interior Design. Winners in this category were MBA students Manish, Rashi and Meghal, and the runners up were Madeeha, Kirti and Muneeza from 2nd year BBA.
The final competition for Horizons ’09 was the Ad Mad Competition, where the judges were faculty members from the Department of Media and Communication, Ms. H.S. Shubha and Mrs. Radhika Jesudasan. The winning team for this competition was John, Sadiq, Hilson and Ryan, all from1st year BBA, while the runner up team comprised of Rahul, Divya, Sifat, Sweta and Mrugesh who are also students of BBA 1st year.
