“Fill your paper with the breathings of your heart” - William Wordsworth.
The Emirates Airline International Festival of Literature (EAIFL) has already begun accepting entries for the 2010 Student’s Writing Competition. The theme for this year’s competition is “The Adventure” and students all across UAE are being urged to send in their short stories.
In association with Magrudy’s, this year’s competition consists of various age groups. Under graduate students can apply in the category of ’18 years and above’ and can send in their stories of maximum 1500 words in either English or Arabic. Entrants are allowed to choose their own title for the original short stories but must however stick to the theme. The winning entries shall be published by Jerboa Books and each winner will receive a copy of the book signed by one of the many famous authors as well as a selection of books.
Last year, 22 winning entries were published in a book titled ‘The Sea’ of which 800 copies have already been sold and it is being re-printed to keep up with its popular demand. This competition is indeed a great opportunity for young aspiring writers to witness their dreams come true. As Williams Wordsworth once said, “Fill your paper with the breathings of your heart”, so take that pen and begin jotting down your ideas. This is the opportunity where, if one strikes gold, he can sit back, breathe in the smell of sweet victory and witness as his story is published, read and devoured by hundreds of people around town.
Deadline for submission of the entries is November 5, 2009. The entries can be submitted online at:
And further information can be obtained from their main website
