Students of Manipal University Dubai who excelled at the BITS Sports Festival 2011 were awarded the prizes by the chief guest of the function, the very popular tennis icon Ms. Sania Mirza Malik.

There were twenty three colleges who battled at the festival for various sports such as basketball, cricket, football, table tennis, badminton, volleyball, throw ball, and much more. Manipal Dubai students took top honours in the first ever Intern-University Women’s Cricket tournament and Table Tennis (girl’s team). They were runner’s up for Throw ball, Chess (both boys and girls team) and Badminton (girls team).

The crowd’s eagerly welcomed Ms. Sania when she arrived at the event. She thanked the audience and spoke “This reminds me of my school days when we used to enjoy the cheer and laughter which is always attached with sports. Sports are a very important part of everyone’s lives. Schools and universities play’s a major role in making a sportsman out of a student.”

Nabila Sharani from the winning women's cricket team said "Winning this trophy for the first time is a recognition of cricket as a competitive sport among women. We played to win and are very happy that we won the inaugural cup."
