Lights, Camera, Action! The annual event of the Department of Media and Communications began today with a bang. A two day event organized on 8th and 9th May 2011 respectively, “Spectrum” was held in its fourth year and has lived up to its promise of being bigger and better each year. The event was held in the auditorium of Manipal University Dubai and student portfolios were on display at exhibitions set up at the second floor classrooms. Organized by the students of the Media Department, it has been a year full of portfolios with promise and talent on show.

The event began with an well received interactive session with the Group Account Director of Hill and Knowlton, Ms. Deema Termanini. She enlightened the students about topics such as what is PR (Public Relations), PR take place in the region, and different scenarios where PR would be used, the working of a PR firm and advising students on preparing to work for the PR industry.

The event then moved on to its next segment where the final year Television Students of the Media Department screened their documentaries, they have been endlessly working on. Their efforts finally paid off when their work was met with a long applause and cheers from the crowd. Ms. Anisha Vijayan and Ms. Sheetal Chauhan were the directors of the two documentaries.

Day 1 of Spectrum 2011 rounded up with an award ceremony, where the Chairperson of the Media and Communications Department R. N. Shukul gave out certificates to students from the department who excelled in the fields of Academics and Sports.

The second floor was abuzz with students heading over to the exhibitions to view student’s portfolios. The exhibitions highlighted student photography, magazines and student’s news articles published in the national press. The surprise package for the event was the Visual Communication class, which was converted into a spooky scenario of a mutated life.
