Mr. Joseph Szymczak presented the ‘Talk Green’ workshop at INDEX 2011. Being an Interior Designer with more than a decade’s experience in the industry in Saudi Arabia as well as USA, his views are very much inspiring. Based in Chicago, he has access to global interior designing market, which according to him is aiming to be more sustainable than ever.

Shocking statistics, interesting case studies, a strong database of industry projects and punchy slogans that promote being ‘green’, made his workshop an eye-opener for the industry professionals as well as  design enthusiasts.

Mr. Szymczak spoke of a slow but steady change in making designs more eco-friendly as  opposed to a drastic and hurried approach. As far as the budding interior designers are concerned, he recommended staying in line with environmental up-gradation and also bending client choices to the very same.

“As interior designers, see how you can bring some of the nature and outdoor elements, as it is very refreshing,” he said.

The workshop touched environmental, social and economic aspects effecting sustainability in furnishings. Mr. Szymczak said it all by ending with the thought, “sustainability is very much on everyone’s mind.”  So for all you designers out there, make sure that what you create does not lead to the destruction of precious resources. Be green, be happy!
