An annual inter-college
cultural festival, UTSAV’12 was held in the Manipal University campus based in
India. A cultural fest held on a period of 5 days which had students competing from
other Manipal universities and constituent colleges of the university, in
various competitions like classical dancing, cultural parade, debates, singing,
fashion show, creative writing, cartooning, light music, JAM (Just a minute),
MAD ads, clay modeling, rangoli, mimicry, quiz and western dance/music.
Students and faculties from Manipal University, Dubai
also participated in the 5-day cultural fest in Manipal India. Ms. Zakiya
Ansari and Ms. Bhakti More, the faculties who accompanied students, offered
them constant motivation and support throughout the competition.
Ms.Bhakti, faculty of Interior Design who summed her experience at UTSAV as
great said, “Our student teams were at their best participating and
performing in various events like debates, dance and
singing. It was a proud moment for all of us when they won well
deserved accolades, despite of intense competition. It is a
privileged feeling to be part of the the ever-growing, esteemed Manipal
University, Dubai.”
The talent,
skill and hard work put in by the participating students was immense, which led
to their victory in the inter-college cultural fest.
Melwyn
Jonathan a final year BBA student along
with his group of 4 singers secured 2nd Position in group-singing
(Western) said, “This is my first time participating in UTSAV, an experience I
will never forget also got a great opportunity to interact with the best
singers from other universities,”
“As far as
music is concerned I learned a lot from the musicians present at the event and
I got productive advice from people who have done their masters in vocal
training and techniques.”
The students
of Manipal University Dubai who participated in UTSAV’12 brought back 3 awards;
Sudhakshina Shivkumar, BBA student secured first position in non-classical
dance and western.
The second
position in group-singing(western) was obtained by Melwyn Jonathan (BBA), Gokul
Warrier (Engineering), Irene Kuruvilla (BBA) and Sudhakshina Shivkuma (BBA).
Irene
Kuruvilla, BBA student gained the second position in western solo at
UTSAV.
