The Students of the Department of Interior Design & Architecture, Manipal University – Dubai Campus were part of the winning entries for the Danube - APID Students – Interior Design Competition that was announced at the Grand Hyatt, Dubai on 31st May 2012. 

Association of Professional Interior Designers (APID) in association with Danube Building Materials FZCO, a leading member of the building materials industry in the Middle East, launched the first-annual Danube / APID Student Design Competition, that was open to all students currently enrolled in a post-secondary, interior design program at any University within the GCC.

176 individual and group entries with a total participation of 264 students from 12 Universities across the GCC countries brought out the high level of interest for the competition, which also promoted the celebration of the World Interiors Day.

The Students of Department of Interior Design & Architecture won two prizes including,
Category 2 : Display Vitrine : Cash Prize : AED 10,000
1st Prize: Lakshmi Shetty, (Individual Entry: 1st Year MA ID Program

The third prize was bagged by Mohammed Tariq, Shifa Gharatkar , Reem Jahan & Heballa Sayed (Team : 2nd Year, BA ID Program) for their Category 1 : Reception Area for Museum of Contemporary Arts: Cash Prize : AED 5,000

Sheikh Humaid Mohammad Obaid Al Qattami, Minister of Education, presented the Danube Students Interior Design Awards to the winners at an award ceremony held at Grand Hyatt, on 31st May 2012. The event also marked the presence of Zarine Khan, Bollywood’s favorite Interior Designer. 

The distinguished panel of judges for the competition comprised of Ms.Faten Alsarraf, Managing Director at Final Fix Interiors, Ms.Indu Varanasi, Managing Director at IR Design and Mr.Erick Casidsid, Design Manager at Gemaco Interiors.

The department thanks all the faculty and students for showing the enthusiasm and commitment which helped us in being a part of the winning podium.
