Frank Nowacki, Director, John R Harris & Partners (JRHP)
The Department of Interior Design & Architecture invited Frank Nowacki, Director, John R Harris & Partners (JRHP), Dubai to interact with the students on Thursday, 5th December 2013. 
John R Harris & Partners, Dubai a consultancy was established in 1949 and grew into an international practice from the head office in London, and then to UAE, Qatar, Spain, Oman, the Far East and Australia. In 1960 His Highness Sheikh Rashid bin Saeed Al Maktoum invited JRHP to develop a Master plan for the rapidly growing city of Dubai. 
A few major projects include The World Trade Centre, Dubai, The Office Development at Sheikh Zayed Road for JAFZA, Wafi shopping mall, Asha’s restaurant Wafi, Retail Development at dubai festival city, Projects at Dubai Sports City, Sharjah English School, Dubai community arts centre, Emirates mall, and many more in Abu Dhabi, Qatar, Ethiopia, Ghana, Islamabad, Jordan etc.
The session titled "Approach to Design",  by Mr Frank focused on the role of sketching in the design process and how 'circulation' is important in Architecture to create functional spaces. He also presented various projects of JRHP explaining the design approach and that an architect shall not confine to design of buildings but can play a role of a designer in various fields of design. The session ended with an interaction by the students with discussions on shaping the architecture of the city of Dubai as the city prepares itself to host the Expo 2020.
