The Architecture Heritage Department of Dubai Municipality, Government of Dubai had organized the 10th session of the Heritage competition for 2012-13,  in various categories for schools and Universities in the U.A.E. The aim of the competition was to invite students to contribute in spreading the culture and Architectural Heritage of U.A.E.

From the 1,706 students from different emirates took part in the contest, our students from the School of Design and Architecture, 2nd year Bachelor of Arts in Interior Design won the prizes in the “Photography” category.

1st Prize: Naamah Abizar (2nd Year BAID) : Certificate + Dhs 3,000
2nd Prize: Caroline Gomez (2nd Year BAID) : Certificate + Dhs 2,000

The School of Design & Architecture would like to thank Prof. Y.D.Pitkar, Sir J.J.College of Architecture, Mumbai, India & Prof. Harimohan Pillai, Director, Kerala, Archiestudio, India, who had conducted DEZINE-KONNECT in April 2013 for the students.

The Heritage walk included designated locations like Meena Bazar, Creek, Bastakiya, Abra, Heritage Village and Gold Souq in Deira, carried out by 8 focus groups who documented the walk and presented their experience within the Built Environment. The entries sent for the Heritage competition were outcome of the event.

Rashad Bukhash, director of architectural heritage department, said the competitions were organised to inculcate an interest towards heritage and tradition in the young generation.

The contests, he added, also encouraged the young minds to learn more about their heritage.

At the event, the official also announced the theme for the next competition, and stated that the focus will be on the Dubai Creek.
