It's 11:45 am, almost time for the last class of the morning to get done. Your stomach is rumbling, it’s almost lunch time. Time to ask yourself the most important question of the day, what are you going to have for lunch?

Here is a list to help make your life easier. In no particular order, here are the top ten restaurants/cafes in the vicinity of Manipal University, Dubai.

1. Skyler's Place Funky Fusion at DIAC

  • The Cuisine: A fusion based on Italian setting with inspirations from Asian and western cuisine.
  • The People: DIAC students and an occasional Manipal Student sighting.
  • How to get there: RTA bus from Manipal, A long walk during the winter, or a short car ride.  
  • Price Range: AED 60 for two.
  • The Good: Different style of food and decent prices.
  • The Bad: Difficult to find the first time! And slow service.

2. Filli Café at DIAC

  • The Cuisine: Well know for their Karak/Kadak Tea i.e. Saffron Tea Blend paired with light snacks.
  • The People: DIAC students and a moderate number of Manipal Students.
  • How to get there: RTA bus from Manipal, a long walk during the winter, or a short car ride away.
  • Price Range: AED 40 for two.
  • The Good: It’s cheap and close by, nobody would turn you down to join them.
  • The Bad: No seating space and limited selection.

3. Fruit Shop at DIAC

  • The Cuisine: A very vegan affair.
  • The People: DIAC students and an occasional Manipal Dubai Student/s sighting.
  • How to get there: RTA bus from Manipal, a long walk during the winter, or a short car ride away.
  • Price Range: AED 40 for two.
  • The Good: Great if you want to be healthy.
  • The Bad: Not so great if you want to get stuffed.

4. Abdulla Omar Cafeteria at Eppco (at the Silicon Oasis exit to Dubai-Al Ain Road)

  • The Cuisine: Mixed – Arabic and Indian. The specialty is the sausage roll and the Oman chips sandwich.
  • The People: DIAC students and a moderate number of Manipal Dubai students.
  • How to get there: A moderate car ride away.
  • Price Range: AED 30 for two.
  • The Good: It’s cheap and it’s something different.
  • The Bad: Difficult to access and limited seating space.

5. Rosa Mexicano at Mirdiff City Center

  • The Cuisine: Mexican, surprisingly authentic.
  • The People: DIAC students and an occasional Manipal Dubai Student/s sighting.
  • How to get there: A moderate car ride away.
  • Price Range: AED 120 for two.
  • The Good: Great food, great atmosphere, great service and value for money.
  • The Bad: Slightly on the pricey side, good for an occasional trip.

6. North Food Court at Mirdiff City Center

  • The Cuisine: Mixed selection.
  • The People: DIAC students, an occasional Manipal Dubai Student/s sighting but high probability of Manipal Faculty sightings!
  • How to get there: A moderate car ride away.
  • Price Range: from AED 30 for two
  • The Good: Good selection of restaurants, at varied price points and plenty of seating space.
  • The Bad: You might also run into faculty members! 



7. Gazebo at Mirdiff City Center

  • The Cuisine: North Indian Sub-Continent.
  • The People: DIAC students and an occasional Manipal Dubai Student/s sighting.
  • How to get there: A moderate car ride away.
  • Price Range: AED 80 for two.
  • The Good: Great food, good service, and plenty of seating.
  • The Bad: Pricey for a daily basis.

8. Starbucks at Mirdiff City Center and at DIAC

  • The Cuisine: Good beverage selection.
  • The People: DIAC students and a moderate number of Manipal Dubai Student/s.
  • How to get there: A moderate car ride away (for Mirdiff) or a RTA bus from Manipal, A long walk during the winter, or a short car ride away (for DIAC).
  • Price Range: AED 70 for two.
  • The Good: It’s Starbucks! The Mirdiff location was recently renovated and offers better service and food selection than the DIAC location.
  • The Bad: The food is pre-packaged and not very flavourful.

9. Nando’s at Mirdiff City Center

  • The Cuisine: Portuguese and South African.
  • The People: DIAC students and a moderate number of Manipal Students.
  • How to get there: A moderate car ride away.
  • Price Range: AED 100 for two.
  • The Good: The food is out of this world and the Mirdiff location is brand new which means the décor is still is good shape.
  • The Bad: It is rather pricey and selection is rather limited.

 10. Al Madina Café at Manipal University – Dubai Campus

  • The Cuisine: Arabic, Indian and Fast food.
  • The People: The force of Manipal is strong here!
  • How to get there: Just get to the ground floor!
  • Price Range: AED 40 for two.
  • The Good: Easy to access, just a walk away from anywhere on Manipal Dubai campus, Value for money and always open.
  • The Bad: There is none! No better choice for a quick bite.
