Manipal Dubai honours 357 students at 8th graduation ceremony

The 8th annual convocation of Manipal University Dubai held at The Ritz-Carlton Hotel, Dubai, on Saturday 18th October 2014, witnessed 357 students enter a new chapter of their life. The day set a milestone for the Manipal Dubai graduates to conquer the world as professionals.

The event was graced with the presence of the Chancellor of Manipal University, Dr. Ramdas M. Pai; His Excellency T.P. Seetharam, Ambassador of India to the UAE; Dr. K. Ramnarayan, Vice Chancellor Manipal University – India; Mr. Mohandas Pai, Chairman of Manipal Global Education (MaGE); Mr. Ravi Panchanadan CEO of MaGE (MENA) and the esteemed guest of honour Dr. K. Kasturirangan, Chancellor of Jawaharlal Nehru University and former Chairman of ISRO (Indian Space Research Organization).

The graduates had the privilege of hearing words of wisdom, encouragement and enlightenment as the guests shared their life experiences.

T.P. Seetharam, Ambassador of India to the UAE shared his experiences upon graduating and spoke about how empowering it felt to hold a degree in his hand. He also mentioned how he and his fellow graduates thought they could change the world, but despite this his generation has yet left a lot unfinished. Now it’s up to the current generation to complete what remains unfinished.

Dr. K. Ramnarayan, Vice Chancellor Manipal University – India, spoke of the power that the student body holds and how education is a constantly evolving concept with an aim of teaching each individual their uniqueness. “Make it an amazing ride. Sail in the ships of ambitions and harbor in success.”

To mark the occasion, Dr. K. Kasturirangan presented Manipal University Dubai a model of the Mars Orbiter Mission (MOM) satellite marking an important step in India’s space history.

This was indeed a moment of glory and honor for all, not only for the students but for the parents as well. Even though some students couldn’t attend their graduation ceremony, their parents were there on their behalf to collect the degree. “What an unreal feeling, waiting in queue, to receive the degree,” said Waqar Ali Khan, Bachelor of Civil Engineering.

“It was my dream to see my son in the graduation attire, receiving his degree but he isn’t here. However, I am still very proud of my son that he has achieved this success,” said Yasmine Banu, mother of Salman Abdul Malik, Bachelor of Electronics & Communications Engineer.

Those who were unable to attend the graduation ceremony were not left out, as they were able to watch the graduation ceremony online. The live streaming featured nearly two thousand views from around the world.

The graduation ceremony also recognized undergraduate and postgraduate students from all Schools for academic excellence and outstanding contribution.

Dubai International Academic City awarded special awards to three Manipal Dubai graduates who showed consistent academic excellence throughout their tenure.  Students awarded included Faizah Husna Mohammed Khaja (Bachelor of Science in Biotechnology), Shahana Humayoon Thoosikkannan, (Bachelor of Business Administration) and Sajith Somanath, (Master of Business Administration).

The Manipal University Dubai is a branch campus of Manipal University India, which opened in 2000, boasts well over 1,500 students from 26 nations studying across undergraduate and postgraduate degree programmes ranging from life sciences, engineering, information technology, architecture &interior design, business and media & communication. Manipal University, India, the largest private university in the country enrolling over 25,000 students across 23 disciplines.
