Manipal University
Dubai hosts a two day career fair on 23rd and 24th March 2016. The career fair is
a great platform for employers to connect with students and alumni.
The event was officially
inaugurated by the Academic President Dr. S.V. Kota Reddy, who highlighted that
today's employers place the most emphasis on finding students with a good work
ethic who can articulate their career goals and who are proficient in the areas
of leadership, communication, collaboration, and innovation.
Besides the career fair exhibit,
the event includes pre-placement talks, campus interviews and technical talk
sessions.
The panel discussions are drawn
from the theme ‘Behind the Scenes’, where industry leaders across business
domains share their experience from which students can draw inspiration.
The first set of panel
sessions explored the leadership perspective. Titled ‘Rise & Fall’, its
panelists included some of the industry’s most revered: Himanshu Vashista,
Founder and CEO of Sixthfactor Consulting; Sankar Sundarsan Founder and CEO of
Stravalor Management Consultants; Carla Klumpenaar, Regional Communication and
Interior Design Manager at IKEA (UAE, Oman, Egypt, Qatar); Dr. Govindrajan,
Head R&D at Himalaya Global Research Centre; Anurag Malhotra, Head of
International Ad Sales and Event Sponsorships, Zee Network ME; and Vikas Handa,
Managing Director at Weir Oil and Gas.
The session was
moderated by Dr. Jason Fitzsimmons, Chairperson of the School of Business. Years
of experience in the industry have made the panelists weather-hardened, turning
their opinions into invaluable advice as they imparted insight into the ‘real corporate
world’.
The second panel discussion
titled, ‘Identify & Create’ was more GenY oriented; its panellists included
some of Manipal Dubai’s most resourceful alumni: Amough Shetty, General Manager
at Technocom Networking Communication; Alma Raheem, Relationship Manager at
Scientific Clinical Lab; Saad Khan, Research Associate at Dubaiomics; Shaik
Waseem, Operations Manager at Voltstar Electromechanical Works LLC; Apurv
Bhatnagar, Interior Architect; and Maha Hussain, Account Manager at IdeaSpice
Design.
The session was
moderated by Mr. Sabir Haque, Asst. Professor from the School of Media &
Communication. The aim of the discussion was to learn from the experiences of
those who have emerged from the same backgrounds as current undergrads; the panellists
shared their stories about starting from student backgrounds and their
metamorphosis into successful individuals.
The highlight of the
event was in the second half of the day where a diverse list of employers set
up base to interview and offering exciting work experience and internship
opportunities for undergrad and postgrad students.
If you missed the first
day, don’t fret! The fair will be on today, the 24th March as well; those
seeking job opportunities, don’t forget to register!
